of scholars and corn

Congratulations to my older brother -- he of the straight As and impeccable personality has enticed the interest of TWO scholarships and a clean entry to Cornell. Now he has to choose between PSC and A*STAR, and he's still trying for Stamford University. The best thing about it is that he deserves it all -- he's a thoroughly nice person on top of having worked through the whole of last year. He even found time to teach me math, brain-dead and recalcitrant though I was.

Unfortunately the family euphoria over the news brought the spotlight a little over to my side. I'd told my poor mother before not to rely on me for money or glory in the future, because what I'd do for a living would in all likelihood be 'tremendously unprofitable'. She tried to bring that up again today. I was shuffling to my homework from the toilet at the time, so I didn't even bother to give her a good stink eye.

I think I'm working up to be a fantastic disappointment to the family.

On the bright side -- my lovely Lear tickets have been BOUGHT!!! It's a lodestone off my chest. It's only money matters left now.

I'm going to a show by the RSC.
